Lyophilized peptides are typically stable at room temperature for several weeks or longer; therefore, if they are to be used within that timeframe, such storage is usually adequate.

However, for long-term storage (ranging from several months to years), it is preferable to store the peptides in a freezer at -80°C (-112°F). When storing peptides for months or even years, freezing is the optimal method for preserving their stability.

SS-31 is a small synthetic peptide that selectively concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it associates with cardiolipin.

Laboratory studies investigate its relationship with oxidative stress, mitochondrial function, and models of cellular aging, primarily through in vitro assays and animal models.
